Finding a Unified Content Strategy

Wednesday, November 8th, 11.00

Category: Intermediate

Track: Web Communication

Case: Leiden University

The web presences of today's large organisations consist of a plethora of systems publishing to different channels. These channels (websites and portals) serve different goals (marketing, communication, supporting the business) and are rooted in separate departments, using their particular systems to manage the content (e.g. CMS, e-learning, e-HRM, enterprise portals). New Web 2.0 tools (e.g. wiki's, blogs, social networking) add to the complexity of the electronic media.

The problem isn't "how do we get as much as possible of our information on-line" anymore. The new challenge is how to manage different content for different audiences. If organisations don't start thinking about a unified content strategy fast, users will publish indiscernibly in whatever system they find easiest, leaving the visitor with a jungle of information.

In his presentation, Adriaan will use the Leiden University case as a starting point for a discussion on what this strategy should look like, and how to get your organisation in gear to implement it.

Joint session with case presented by Deirdre Sharrock from Meath County Council.
