What do you get for free? - Comparing open source and commercial CMS

Thursday, November 9th, 11.00

Category: Beginner

Track: Technology

Today, a large number of serious content management systems are available. One of the key differentiators between the systems is whether they are based on open source development or on closed source from a commercial vendor.

This presentation will focus on real life experiences from working with both kinds of systems, with examples from the open source Joomla and the commercial Tridion system.

Parameters covered in the presentation are:

  • Content authoring and maintenance
  • Education, development and support
  • Integration with external systems
  • Performance, flexibility and security
  • Risks
  • Total cost of ownership

Wrapping it up, it is a road map for making a decision.

Joint session with case presented by Raimond Kempees from Leiden University.
